The principal activity of this sector is management of communal and other non-hazardous waste on the territory of the Municipality of Bitola. This sector includes a unit for technical support and services which has an animal shelter service and a vehicle removal service.
The Sector carries out the following activities:
- Collection and transportation of communal and other non-hazardous waste;
- Disposal of communal waste;
- Selective collection of waste (paper and PET plastics);
- Mechanical treatment of that waste;
- Placing specialized waste bins;
- Removing illegally parked vehicles or vehicles that inhibit the normal movement of other vehicles;
- Capturing and sheltering stray dogs.
The collection and transportation of communal and other non-hazardous waste is conducted in the city of Bitola and 16 surrounding villages considered as part of the Municipality (Logovardi, Lopatica, Kukurechani, Kravari, Dihovo, Trnovo, Magarevo, Dolno Orizari, Bistrica, Nizho Pole, Zhabeni, Bukovo, Karamani, Krklino, Trn and Lavci). The collection and transportation of communal and other types of non-hazardous waste is being carried out in 15 regions.
According to analysis conducted by PE Komunalec Bitola, the average amounts of weekly communal waste collected is around 545 tons per week, or approximately 28.340 tons per year.
The disposal of the communal and the other non-hazardous waste takes place in the landfill Meglenci and the disposal is being carried out using a surface method.
